OVERVIEW OF THE POSITION
The objective of the project is rehabilitation of Kismayo port. The rehabilitation works will allow improvement in coach and speed of the port services. The primary constraint limiting potential of throughput of the porl are ship wrecks limiting access to vessels coming to the port.
The focus of the project is removal of ship wrecks which are primary constraining factor.
GENERAL FUNCTIONS
Role objective:
Supervision and monitoring of company activities contracted for ship wreck
removal in Kismayo seaport of Somalia. Assist the Project Manager in the day
to day management of the contract, in compliance with regulatory and legal
requirements
Expected output:
l. Get familiarized with scope of the project and company contractual details hired lor the salvage projectl
Review Site Safety Plan and Method of Statement for execution of the project, make recommendations for improvements if required, Maintain and apply knowledge of current policies, regulations, and processes;
Closely monitor and supervise contractor's daily activities. Special attention and consideration to be given to the safety aspects of contractor's activities. All hazards that imposes a danger to navigation, to port operations, to the human, or may result harmful consequences to the marine environment, or damage to the coastline, or related interests should be foreseen;
When required issue clear written engineering instructions to contractor defining required actions and methods for risks mitigation;
Assure daily activity reports, as well as monthly summary, mid-term and final reports are processed by contractor and submitted to WFP project manager within initially agreed timeline and report format;
Perform any other duties related to the scope of the assignment, that might arise and as determined by the project manager.
Project reporting:
l. Contractor's daily activities are well monitored and supervised;
Daily work progress update is communicated to project manager;
Risks and hazards are foreseen relevant mitigation measures are taken

ESSENTIAL EXPERIENCE
Education:
§ Master's degree in Civil Engineering.
Work experience:
§ Minimum of 5 years of demonstrable relevant Engineering – Civil experience.
Geographical experience:
§ Minimum of 5 years of experience in Africa with local experience in Kismayo is an advantage.
Languages:
§ Fluency in English is essential.
Key competencies:
l. Minimum 5 years ofprofessional experience at international level in civil engineering.
Relevant Marine consultancy experience (either as a Salvage Master, a Naval Architect or Marine Engineer). This experience should be backed up with description, role(s) and outputs of relevant project(s) undertaken
Experience in managing and supervising medium to large-scale projects;
Good understanding and knowledge of safety requirements and regulations;
Knowledge and good understanding of contractual terms and requirements of construction projects;
Good computer literacy, communication and reporting skills,
