PROJECT SUMMARY
The project’s main objectives are to promote sustainable coastal habitat restoration and to alleviate poverty through date palms and mangrove as well as indigenous trees restoration, construction of fishing technology, solar powered irrigation systems for poor farmers, and to improve awareness among the communities of the importance of the coastal habitat, by focusing on effective solutions to address the development and ecological needs of communities necessary for climate change adaptation.
BACKGROUND FOR CONSULTANCY
Adeso is looking for a suitable short-term solar technical expert for its climate change adaptation and mitigation program in the coastal areas of Somalia/Somaliland. The initial consultancy employment period is for twenty (20) days that will be spread in the project’s implementation period at the critical phases.
OBJECTIVE OF THE CONSULTANCY
The Technical expert will be required to carry out maintenance and repair of the cooling systems and sanitation materials in the existing fish processing and storage facilities.
S/he will be required to carry out repair and maintenance of existing solar powered irrigation farms in coastal villages.
S/he will provide basic technical training to farming and fishing communities in the coastal villages.
SCOPE OF WORK
Assessment of the coastal sites and identification of malfunctioning spare parts of the existing fish processing storage and solar powered irrigation systems in the coastal villages.
Preparation of BoQs for the rehabilitation works for existing fish storage facilities and solar powered irrigation farms.
Working with the skilled community people in ensuring that the work adheres to proper engineering standards and specifications.
Building the capacity of the community through proper guidance during the work.
Training the Adeso project team and members of coastal communities in basic DC electricity and solar installations.
6. Providing a detailed report of the work before, during and after the rehabilitations.
CONSULTANCY PERIOD
· Twenty (20) days.
QUALIFICATIONS
· Electric engineering degree or equivalent other related fields.
· Minimum 3 experience in installation of solar powered irrigation systems and solar cooling systems.
· Strong experience in providing training for community.
· Ability to work independently, under pressure and under time constraints.
· A qualified Somalia national is highly preferred.

All images (whether used for online or print purposes) must however bear the consultant’s photo credit, as specified by international intellectual property rights. The consultant may not use, reproduce or otherwise disseminate or authorize others to use, reproduce or disseminate such works without prior consent from Adeso.
