PSYCHOSOCIAL SUPPORT CONSULTANT

Justification

The Somali children have gone through traumatic situations even at this stage when normalcy is returning after long period of infighting and militia rule. The prevailing conditions have affected the psychosocial state of the children. To improve the educational performance of the children, regular psychosocial evaluation and support is required.

Methodology

The consultant will hold two stage assessment and support to the teachers and pupils of the target schools under the overall coordination of ADRA. The consultant will develop appropriate strategies applicable to the local conditions to roll out the assignment. The consultant will report on progress to ADRA Field Office and project manager.

Specific Duties and Tasks

Under the direct supervision of ADRA, the consultant will perform the following duties:

  1. Design standard package of psychosocial activities/programme aimed at strengthening teachers and children’s resilience and address psychosocial distress, to be delivered through a series of structured sessions based on individual assessments. Materials to be based on existing methodologies (such as War Child’s DEAL) and adapted to the context.
  2. Develop selection of beneficiaries’ criteria based on vulnerabilities and risks targeting the most in need children;
  3. Develop related monitoring and evaluation tools;
  4. Provide training of trainers for key partner staff (teachers) who will support delivery of activities;
  5. Evaluate and adapt approach as necessary.

Expected Deliverables and Timeline

  1. Selection of beneficiaries’ criteria;
  2. Standard package of psychosocial activities/ programme
  3. M&E tools integrated in the standard package;
  4. Trainings of trainers covering up to 50% of the teachers
  5. On the job assessments and support plan (weekly, monthly ??);
  6. Final report.

Qualification of the consultant.

  • 5 years’ experience in providing trainings on psychosocial support, conflict transformation and peace building.

  • Strong communication and training facilitation skills;

  • Willingness and ability to be flexible.

  • Excellent report writing skills.
