Background

Islamic Relief Somalia (IRS) has been operating in Somalia since 2006 and has responded to conflict and drought affected people through provision of life saving assistance. Through our projects, IR has continuously been providing safe drinking water, improving hygienic sanitation facilities, increasing hygiene awareness, particularly to ones living in IDP camps; empowering the urban poor and distressed working children, engaging in conflict management and mitigation and strengthening of community cohesiveness and co-existence.

Main duties and Responsibilities

· Prepare plans for effective execution of the project activities related to livelihood approaches to disaster resilience as stipulated in the project document which includes but not limited to skills, practices and capacities, to manage resources and skills particularly of poor and vulnerable, and institutional strengthening to increase the resilience of the target communities to different hazards and disasters

· Design, develop and provide necessary training for target communities to develop skills and capacities for disaster resilient livelihood strategies and viable options for income.

· Knowledge on quality seeds and good agricultural practices

· Lead beneficiary selection, verification, mobilization and sensitization

· Prepare project reports/weekly/monthly and annual as well for any updates required from the field

· Develop project work plan and implement against the target

· Coordinate the implementation of the livelihoods component in the Recovery field area of responsibility

· Provide support to the Area Coordinator in provision of livelihoods measures, and updates of the progress

· Demonstrate strong commitment to be accountable to beneficiaries as it is a key Islamic Relief worldwide commitment to beneficiaries

· To identify and select project beneficiaries through a baseline survey in the area of the project implementation

· Provide direct and continuous assistance to farmers and ensure sustainable agriculture technologies through Farmers Field Schools (FFS)

· In consulting Village Development Committee (VDC) –in planning, setting up the criteria to identify Farmers Field Schools (FFS) groups and establishment

· In conjunction with project team under-take periodic needs assessment and prepare comprehensive report on field assessment

· Coordinate the implementation of livelihoods component between the local stakeholders

· Support to the effective mainstreaming of gender equality in beneficiary selection and sensitization

· Working with the multi-functional team to assess the project progress against the project design

· Building strong relationships with relevant stakeholders, including communities, line ministries agencies to adapt their programmes

Required Skills & knowledge and Experience

· A minimum of 3-4 years of experience working on agriculture development

· Demonstrated experience and knowledge in establishing systems and overseeing project start‐up;

· Experience supervising personnel and ensuring they acquire the necessary training and skills to meet evolving program needs;

· Experience working for programming standards, like how IRW understand extreme poverty.

· Advanced degree (Masters) in an Agriculture‐related field;

· Strong leadership, program, organizational management and communication skills; and

· Fluency in English is required
