Organization: Spark
Country: Somalia
Closing date: 11 May 2018

Background

The Somali financial sector remains underdeveloped, informal and unregulated, with limited access to credit and savings. Its development is dependent on a sound legal and regulatory framework and the ability of the multiple Somali Central Banks that exist in the country to provide the necessary support and supervisory functions. So far, the Central Banks of Somalia and Somaliland are not in a position to perform key central bank functions, as it has not developed standard instruments necessary to conduct monetary policy. Premier Bank is one of the new banks to emerge in the Somali region since the collapse of the central government that is not born from a remittance institution. Premier bank would like to expand its operations and train its new staff to gain the knowledge and expertise to market its products and services to customers, with a particular focus on SME’s. These services will encourage SME’s to use the bank’s products and services more frequently which in turn will significantly improve customer retention and overall experience.

The Somali private sector is interconnected within all the Somali regions and across East Africa. The more SME’s are satisfied with Premier Bank, the more SME’s will invest their money into Premier Bank, which will result in a significant growth.
