Country: Spain
Closing date: 31 Jul 2018
About us:
Street Child is a charity dedicated to empowering some of the most vulnerable children in the world by giving them the chance to go to school and giving their families the sustainable means to keep them there. There’s never been a better time to get behind our cause; we are one of the most ambitious and most exciting international development charities around and this is your chance to be a part of our incredible cause!
Street Child Spain:
We are looking for a board member who can identify with and be motivated by the core values and objectives of our organisation, and contribute to the creation of new ideas that can help us grow. The successful candidate will have entrepreneurial qualities and be self motivated. An extensive network of professional and personal contacts in Spain is considered an essential advantage.
Currently, our board is composed of six members. Membership is completely voluntary, however, after joining the board, members accept responsibility for leadership of the organisation and will make crucial decisions for the development and operation of Street Child España. Street Child España is still a young charity, however, we strive to expand our reach, so we are aware that our sense of responsibility must go beyond a purely "practical" mentality and look strategically to future growth.
As a board member, you would be directly supporting Street Child´s cause by helping to create brighter futures for thousands of children in Western Africa and Nepal. You will also have the opportunity to engage with new networks and meet people from different professional backgrounds.
Responsibilities
You will be part of a small board, supported by our European fundraising office located in Barcelona. Below are some examples of the tasks you will be in charge of:
● Contribute actively to the board by giving strategic direction, defining goals, setting targets, and evaluating performance against agreed targets
● Identify new fundraising opportunities for the global Street Child network
● Support the formation of partnerships with companies, charities or other relevant organisations
● Manage the legal representation of the organisation in accordance with fiscal and statutory regulations
Requirements
● Interest in international development, education, humanitarian aid and human rights
● Availability to join quarterly board meetings and ideally additional meetings and events
● Having a wide social and professional network is considered a great advantage
● Proficient in both English and Spanish or Catalán
