The Skills for Economic Growth Program (S4EG) is a component of Australia's Education Support Program in the Solomon Islands. The program is funded by the Australian Government and implemented by Palladium. The strategic objective of the program is 'To strengthen the capacity of the nation's tertiary and skills sector to produce quality graduates who are in demand in the labour market.'
Palladium International is seeking expressions of interest from men and women interested in working in a challenging environment and developing the capacity and capability of local skills training providers in the Solomon Islands. The position will begin in June 2018(date to be negotiated).
Work Location - Solomon Islands:
The position will be responsible for leading the institutional strengthening and capacity building of S4EG's training provider partners including the Solomon Islands National University (SINU) and Vocational Rural Training Centres (VRTC).
Duration of Employment:
We are offering the successful candidate employment on a fixed term contract for 1 to 2 years commencing in June (date to be negotiated) to 31 December 2018, with the option of an extension to 31 December 2019. Reporting to the Program's Senior Skills Advisers the positions will be responsible for leading the institutional strengthening and capacity building of S4EG's training provider partners including the Solomon Islands National University (SINU) and Vocational Rural Training Centres (VRTC).
About
The person we are looking for will have extensive and relevant teaching experience, a comprehensive understanding of contemporary tertiary education and skills systems, competency based training and assessment and how to develop industry relevant vocational skills training programs and teaching and learning resources.
The Skills Trainer will work under the direction of the S4EG Team and in concert with partner training institutions to plan and implement initiatives that help develop the capacity and capability of all S4EG partner institutions to deliver high quality competency based skills programs which meet the needs of the Solomon Island labour market and the requirements of new nationally (SI) accredited qualifications. In summary the position will:
- Support teaching staff at the Solomon Islands National University (SINU) and Rural Training Centres (RTC's) to implement initiatives that target the quality improvement of competency based skills program development and delivery with a focus on supporting economic growth.
- Support continuous improvement processes and mentoring initiatives around; curriculum and learning materials development, infrastructure, teacher training and development, business systems and management processes.
- Develop and implement continuous quality improvement plans focussed on meeting provider registration standards and national course accreditation requirements.
- Participate in the development of new course/qualification development including industry and stakeholder consultation processes to ensure the relevance of national skills packages to labour market demand.
- Provide advice and support to strengthen partnerships with local industry and community and other local stakeholders as and when required.
- Provide in class or workplace support to Trainers delivering new curriculum and assessment systems and conduct professional development programs to assist their product development skills.
- Work with SINU and RTC trainers to prepare lesson plans, teaching and assessment strategies, teaching aids and other support materials such as on-line resources through learning management systems.
Support the implementation of proposed changes to the SI apprenticeship scheme including participation in industry forums and workshops.
Selection Criteria:
1 High performing TVET/Skills trade teacher, high level communication, analytical and team work skills. 2 An ability to coach, mentor and capacity build Solomon Islander national TVET Trainers and staff. 3 Demonstrated knowledge and skills of competency based training & assessment; workforce development practices; teaching and student learning resource development. 4 Experience in developing and implementing training, assessment and quality improvement plans. 5 Between 5 and 10 years minimum recent and relevant experience in developing and delivering CBT vocational skills programs, curriculum and learning resources and workforce development. 6 A minimum, TAE40110 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment or equivalent. 7 Relevant professional and/or industry qualifications.
