OVERVIEW OF CTG GLOBAL

OVERVIEW OF THE POSITION
Our client is a division of OROLSI in the DPKO. Our client is mandated by the UNGA (RES/68/72) to ensure an effective, proactive and coordinated response to the problem posed by a wide range of explosive hazards. Legislative mandates also recognize our clients technical expertise in responding to threats posed by unsecured and unsafe conventional weapons and ammunition stockpiles. As an office within DPKO, our client supports peacekeeping and special political missions in accordance with Security Council mandates.
Our client provides explosive hazard management capacities, including mitigation, to AMISOM as part of a logistical support package. Non-lethal tactical advice and analysis is delivered by our client technical advisers located in each AMISOM SHQ and at AMISOM FHQ, who support AMISOM planning and operations. Our client support includes both enabling (“operate in spite of IEDs”) and response (“defeat the device”). Our client also supports the Federal Government of Somalia, including the Somali Police Force, Somali Explosive Management Authority and National Security Adviser.
The Peace and Security Cluster (PSC) supports and facilitates the work of our client, other UN partners and govt. in some 18 countries and territories affected by explosive-hazards. The PSC provides specialized project management services to efficiently support our client in delivering essential work on the ground in emergency, post-conflict and peacekeeping environments with the aim of promoting peace and security, protecting civilians and ensuring long lasting human security.
GENERAL FUNCTIONS
Role objective:
Organisational Setting and Reporting Relationships: This position is in Somalia and is in support of United Nations Support Office in Somalia (UNSOS). The Vehicle Mechanic is responsible for providing oversight maintenance and repair of UN-owned fleet of vehicles including armoured personnel carriers (APC), POE, logistical vehicles in UNSOS duty stations Mogadishu and the Sectors.
Accountabilities and Responsibilities:
Within delegated authority and direct Supervision of Maintenance Unit Chief, the Vehicle Mechanic will be responsible for the following duties:
Responsible for repair and maintenance oversight of a multi-type vehicle fleet (over 2000 vehicles) at multiple contracted workshops in various Sectors and locations in Somalia.
Assist in vehicles engine, mechanical and electrical components (computer and electronic systems) diagnoses repair and maintain issues during the joint inspection with TPC.
Provide an accurate maintenance and repairs levels during the joint inspection with the TPC.
Undertake the day to day monitoring of quality of vehicle body work, electrical and mechanical repair work, by TPC.
Manage day to day workshop activities including joint inspection and identification of required parts and part numbers.
Liaise and coordinate in daily basis with UNSOS(TPC) warehouse manager and staff for ordering and reviving the required parts and consumables.
Mantain day to day UMOJA notification log books, Work orders and Records both soft and hard copies.
Assist the Section in procurement/ acquisitioning process by providing the required Fleet Spares Parts, Part numbers and UMOJA PID by confirming the specifications of all parts based upon the manufacturer’s recommendations.
Assists with development of maintenance and repair plan for vehicles in accordance with the mission’s vehicle and equipment annual maintenance plan.
Receives vehicles and equipment from clients then process the work orders and assign jobs to the contracted workshop for repair and maintenance.
Assists with invoices verification and matching process against completed authorized jobs.
Ensures that quality control is implemented in all plans, procedure and workshops under contractual arrangements.
Assists with monitoring the overall performance of fleet maintenance, taking into consideration the requirement of individual types based on the age and technical performance of each make/model.
Provides technical input into the preparation of scopes of work for potential service contractors and the evaluation of the viability of maintenance and repair proposals received by the mission.
Assists with conducting technical evaluations of spare parts bids received from potential suppliers by the Supply Chain in response to requisitions and assesses the suitability of spare parts and materials being offered for the intended application.
Assist/undertake in R&I process.
Assists with technical evaluation of equipment to determine viability of repairs or write-off.
Prepares daily workshop reports of all workshop activities for the TPT Workshop Manager.
In addition to the above, the incumbent assists with planning and executing, as required, additional maintenance tasks that fall within the capability of his unit and performs a variety of additional, ad-hoc tasks as and when required by the Chief Transport Section.

The efficient maintenance and repair of the UN-owned fleet of vehicles in wide range including light passenger vehicles, logistical vehicles, combat vehicles etc. including donated assets to AMISOM in the same nature. Well-managed and supervised maintenance unit staff working in close coordination with the contractor rendering this service

ESSENTIAL EXPERIENCE
Education:
§ Certificate in High School diploma/certificate and/or automotive or engineering equipment apprenticeship certificate of no less than four years duration.
Work experience:
§ Minimum of 3 years of demonstrable relevant Maintenance experience.
Geographical experience:
§ Minimum of 1 years of experience in Africa (essential).
Languages:
§ Fluency in English is essential.
Key competencies:
Experience:
Eight (8) years of training/experience in automotive or mechanical engineering practice, including at least two (2) years’ experience at the international level. UN experience is an asset.
Must have an excellent proven technical and computerized knowledge in identifying Vehicles and plant (Above mentioned Mission Fleet) spares parts and consumables including spare part number.
Must have Excellent and proven technical, Automobile engine, mechanical and electrical component knowledge and expertise on all types of light and heavy vehicles including APC and MHE to monitor, inspect, verify works rendered by the repair & maintenance by contractor(s).
Good knowledge in complex mechanical or electronical systems of vehicles and have excellent problem-solving abilities with good communication skill to in provide advices.
Able to read blueprints, schematics, diagrams, and technical orders to determine methods and sequences of assembly.
Excellent physical condition.

Special Requirements
Job is in high risk and harsh climatic conditions such as dust, at times muddy, extremely high temperature, airport noise, restricted living conditions, may be required to travel in-country by light airplane, helicopter, and armoured personnel carrier. Will be required to carry and use communication radio, carry and wear personal protective equipment (PPE) weighing approximately 10 kg/22lbs and may have to contend with restricted diet as provided for the rest of the mission staff
