In Somalia,Trocaire has been providing humanitarian and development support since 1992, with a focus on the Gedo region. The programme provide basic support in healthcare, nutrition and education in five districts – Belet Xaawa, Dollow, Luuq, Garbahareey and Burdhubo.

The programme is recruiting an Education Project Officer to oversee the implementation of the education component of the programme in Gedo Region of Somalia as per the donor regulations.

Reporting to Field Programme Coordinator . This is a fixed term contract for one year and is based in Gedo region of Somalia.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

Programme

  • Lead in day to day management of education project including development, partnership management and coordination.
  • Representation at key education meetings including the Ministry of Education and education cluster meetings both in Gedo region and national level meetings.
  • Ensure programme quality control and downward accountability of the interventions.
  • Train partners to gather lessons learnt, best practice and stories of change across the program.
  • Act as a contact point for the field office on all education operational and project issues, and ensure that field and Nairobi office concerns are addressed while adopting to organizations procedures
  • Supervision of the education projects including monthly reporting of its deliverables providing regular reports against the projects work plans.
  • Oversee and directly manage education projects implemented by Trocaire in the provision of technical support, development of logical frameworks and appropriate indicators.
  • Education
    • Bachelors degree in Education.
    • Diploma/Certificate in Development studies / project management will be an added advantage
    • Experience
    • At least 5 years of experience in management of an Education Project in an International NGO.
    • Experience working with the Ministry, local authorities, communities committees and partners.
    • Skills
    • Leadership and good interpersonal skills including the ability to listen; negotiation skills at different levels; flexible and adaptable to work under unstable environments and under pressure with limited support
    • Strong writing and excellent communication skills in English and Somali.
    • Good computer skills (Microsoft Office).
    • Ability to manage and build capacity partner organizations and stakeholders.
    • Good understanding and experience of Project /Programme management cycle, and participatory appraisal techniques.
    • Demonstrates sound experience and knowledge of effective financial and budgetary control and grant management
    • Knowledge and experience of managing or working on livelihoods and/or education programmes is desirable.
    • Proven track record in high quality report and proposal preparation for donors
    • Proficiency in Somalia is an added advantage
