Organisational background:
Action Contre la Faim (Action Against Hunger) has been conducting humanitarian programs in Somalia since May 1992. Currently, Action Against Hunger is conducting its humanitarian activities in Somalia focused on treating and preventing malnutrition, increasing access to clean water and appropriate sanitation, strengthening the food-security, livelihoods and thus boosting the resilience of communities in Somalia as well as emergency response via program bases in Somalia.
Scope of Responsibility:
The Pharmacist is responsible to dispense drugs according to organizational standards and procedures of drug management in his/her designated dispensary.
The Pharmacist reports hierarchically to the MCH Supervisor and technically to the Nurses & Capital-Health and Nutrition Field officer. The Pharmacist position will be based in Somalia-Wajid.
Objective 1**:** General Knowledge of Action Against Hunger and Safety at work
- Co-operation with the colleagues of own and other departments
- Is aware of activities of other departments and respect specific rules and procedures
- Comply with the health and safety rules related to the job for the sites.
- Ensure all staff supervised by him/her comply with the health and safety rules / instructions of the supervisor related to the job.
- Respect medical ethics at all times
Objective 2: Pharmacy dispensing and management
- Ensure proper package of dispensed drugs
- Monitor the stock consumption and make regular drug orders to the main pharmacy/store based on consumption.
- Liaise with the nurses on duty for the consumption, delivery and ordering of drugs.
- Regularly monitor the expiry dates of all available drugs and report to the supervisor or main pharmacist
- Report anticipation of shortages and stock levels to supervisor
- Keep the pharmacy clean and organised.
- Be involved in regular inventories/stock count and ordering
- Proper monitoring of cold chain items
Objective 3**:** In case of individual dispensing
- Dispensing of drugs to patients as prescribed by the consultants of the different departments.
- Explaining to the patients, how to take the prescribed drugs.
- Give first dose of the drug on spot if necessary.
- Supervise the drug intake where necessary
Objective 4: Pharmacy Data Collection.
- Prepare regular consumption sheets of the dispensary pharmacy.
- Prepare regular inventories/ stock counts
- Based on above prepare regular orders.
Objective 5**:** Reporting to the supervisor
- Make reports on a regular basis (daily / weekly / monthly)
- Report problems encountered to the supervisor
Position Requirements
- Diploma in pharmacy management
Skills & Experience
- Good understanding of the Somali and English language
- Previous Work Experience in a drug dispensary
- Prior experience in Somalia or other relevant conflict / crisis situation a strong plus.
Competencies: Precision and exactitude. Good capacity to work in a team, flexibility. Good relations and ability to communicate with others. Know the different sign of malnutrition.
Personal qualities: Organization skills, rigor, flexibility, ability to work with multi-disciplinary and multi-cultural people, open-minded, good communication skills, ability to listen, diplomacy.
