The European Forest Institute (EFI) is an international organisation with 25 Members, and over 120 Associate Member institutions. EFI’s Headquarters is located in Joensuu, Finland. EFI has several offices across Europe, and FLEGT offices in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia and in Beijing, China.
EFI hosts the EU FLEGT Facility and the EU REDD Facility, which support partner countries, the European Commission, EU Delegations and EU Member States in the implementation of the EU FLEGT Action Plan and REDD+ Activities. Tasks and responsibilities
The Senior Communication Expert will support the development and implementation of communication strategies to foster good forest and land-use governance. More specifically, the Expert will:
- Contribute to designing, implementing and measuring a global communications strategy on FLEGT for a partnership of actors committed to sustainable forest management and verifiably legal trade in timber from tropical countries
- Create widespread momentum around and interest in the real advances being made through policy reform in forest governance worldwide, with a focus on the EU FLEGT Action Plan
- Act as deputy to the Communication Team Leader
- Contribute to designing, implementing and measuring a communication strategy for achieving the EU REDD Facility’s goals
- Provide strategic communication advise to VPA partner countries and REDD Facility country actions
- Lead the planning and implementation of content development, editorial and knowledge management processes, including introduction and operations of digital tools to streamline processes as well as development and implementation of improvements in document and multimedia work-flows for both facilities and among close partners
- Further develop knowledge management related to FLEGT and REDD into a central strategic asset for the Facilities
- Conceptualize, write and repurpose content about FLEGT and REDD, including web content, speeches, publications, briefings, talking points, key messages, presentations, videos, illustrations
Qualifications
- Degree in communication, journalism or related field
- Minimum 8 years’ professional communication experience
- Exceptional skills in the development and implementation of communication strategies in complex multistakeholder environments
- Experience planning, introducing and managing processes and digital tools, including streamlining content development, editorial and knowledge management processes
- Exceptional writing and content development skills, with demonstrated achievement developing highly accessible content for a variety of audiences and in print, web, multi-media and video formats
- Experience in communicating about forest and/or natural resource related issues an advantage
- Experience in communicating about FLEGT, REDD and/or governance issues an advantage
- Ability to work on complex and politically sensitive issues with a large range of stakeholders with different views and needs
- Experience in working with developing countries an advantage
- Proven skills in engaging with and managing teams and external experts
- Experience in working in a multi-cultural, inter-disciplinary environment
- Fluency in English; Fluency in French and/or Spanish is an advantage
Duty station
The Expert will be based at the EFI Barcelona Office in Barcelona, Spain.
Employment conditions
The Expert will be an EFI staff member. The initial duration of employment will be two years including a six-month probation period. EFI offers a competitive benefits and salary package.
