BACKGROUND
The IRC has been working in Somalia since 2006, providing essential services to conflict and disaster affected communities. The IRC has been operational in Central Somalia (Mudug and Galgaduud), Mogadishu and Puntland regions implementing interventions in the areas of livelihood, WASH, Governance, protection and primary health reaching out to more than 250,000 conflict and drought affected Somalis.

SCOPE OF WORK

The GBV Response Officer will work to ensure improved quality of health and psychosocial support for survivors, support local partner, support development of a functional referral networks that enhance survivors’ ability to receive confidential, safe, and timely services that meets their needs in a timely manner, including supervision and capacity building of Case Workers, local partner staff, GBV partners, GBV coordination with other partners, and empowerment activities with women and girls.

She/he will oversee Case management and psychosocial support services provided to survivors of gender-based violence and women and girls in general, including training and supervision of Case Workers to provide appropriate response services to GBV survivors and development, implementation of basic psychosocial support activities for women and girls at the safe spaces and local partner support.

QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

Education:

• Diploma/Certificate in Social Work/Social Sciences/Counseling/psychology/ health or other related field preferred. Degree in similar fields would be an added advantage.

Skills and Experience:

  1. Counseling and experience/ working with women and girls with a reputable organization or local women organisations/groups, including experience counseling survivors of abuse or violence.
  2. Excellent listening and observation skills, including ability to create trust, support, respect and interact with survivors of all ages, background and diversity
  3. 1-2 years’ experience in the direct provision of counseling and psychosocial support to survivors of gender based violence, including child survivors preferred and an added advantage but not a must. Good facilitation skills and experience required
  4. Clear understanding, including demonstrated positive attitudes on gender inequality, and issues surrounding violence against women and girls STRONGLY preferred.
  5. Ability to maintain confidentiality and respect for clients at all times is essential.
  6. Ability to lead, train, supervises, facilitates and motivates other GBV staff and local partners in their respective tasks in a professional, respectful and supportive manner.
  7. Positive and professional attitude, able to organize, maintain composure and prioritize work under pressure, work overtime when necessary and be able to coordinate multiple tasks and maintain attention to detail. Ability to work as a member of a team essential.
  8. Ability to communicate in English local dialects spoken in Somalia.
  9. Ability to write reports in English would be an added advantage
  10. Basic knowledge of computer skills are helpful (word, excel, email etc) and a plus
