ASSISTANT EDUCATION OFFICER (National Position)
Background
Action Africa Help International (AAH-I) is an international not-for-profit humanitarian and development agency with headquarters in Nairobi, Kenya, and Country Programmes in South Sudan, Kenya, Somalia, Uganda, and Zambia. AAH-I has a long experience of partnering with UNHCR in delivering humanitarian assistance in South Sudan, Uganda, Zambia and Somalia. More recently, it has expanded its activities in Somalia to work with the marginalized communities, including pastoralist communities and communities in urban slums. AAH-Somalia Urban Refugee Education Programme aims at enrolling Yemeni refugee children to school for them to achieve their full potential and enjoy their right to education.
Duty Location: Mogadishu, Somalia.
Duties & Responsibilities
The Assistant Education Officer will be responsible in helping in the selection of Government owned education spaces for the Yemeni refugee children enrolment, collecting beneficiaries’ data, monitoring the teaching and the learning processes. He/ She will provide learning support and recreational activities to refugee children so they can access and stay in school, protected from abuse and harmful practices, professional support for teachers, awareness sessions for parents, and minor school rehabilitation for schools hosting refugee children

Qualifications
· Minimum of Diploma in education/ social sciences or its equivalent
· Minimum of three (3) years’ work experience in education sector especially in refugee setting
Skills and Competencies
· Knowledge of education in emergencies, education sector policy, child rights and protection issues
· Experiences of facilitating community-based training, capacity building school managements, and awareness campaigns
· Strong self-starter, able to take initiative and adapt to changing circumstances and priorities
· Good report writing skills
· Willingness and capacity to be flexible and accommodating when faced with difficult and frustrating working conditions
· Excellent communication skills and a willingness to be respectful, kind, sensitive and empathize with all children and their care-givers.
· Commitment to and understanding of AAH-I’s vision, mission and values.
